Court Ruling On Muhoroni Demolitions

High court in Kisumu has now ordered the Kenya Railways Corporation to pay over Kshs 20M in damages to families affected by demolitions to pave way for the rehabilitation of the railway line.

Over 200 locals had moved to the environment and lands court in Kisumu following the demolitions that happened in last year.

Justice Antony Ombwayo in his ruling said KR violated the rights of the families who were affected given than there was no proper notice of vacation.

Court heard that there was no proper relocation plan for the families before the demolition was carried out.

Lawyer Kenneth Amondi who represented the families welcomed the ruling saying it was a big reprieve for the affected.

The demolitions were carried out in Shaurimoyo, Bondeni and Swahili villages in Muhoroni.
