Kerley Bows Out Of 100m Relays With Injury

Tuesday's failure to advance from the 200-meter semifinals of the event ended Kerley's chances of completing a world sprint double. At the time, he complained of a thigh cramp.

The US team’s 4x100m relay will not include world 100m champion Fred Kerley due to a “slight ailment to his quadriceps,” a team spokesman announced on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s failure to advance from the 200-meter semifinals of the event ended Kerley’s chances of completing a world sprint double. At the time, he complained of a thigh cramp.

“Fred suffered a slight injury to his quadriceps during the 200m semi-final. He’ll no longer be able to run the 4×100 relay in the week,” the official told AFP.

The men’s relay semifinal and final are set for Saturday. Heats are on Friday.

Marvin Bracy and Trayvon Brommell, who finished first and second in the 100-meter clean sweep for the US, as well as Elijah Hall, Kyree King, and Josephus Lyles, are still available for the US relay squad.
