Peter Orero, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate in the Kibra parliamentary race, has been declared the winner of the August 9 elections.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) named Orero the winner on Thursday morning, replacing departing legislator Imran Okoth, who was running as an Independent candidate.
Shortly after the announcement, Orero thanked his supporters for their support, promising to serve the people of Kibra tirelessly while in government.
“I want to thank the people of Kibra for voting for me. I want to bring my knowledge, ability and skills to serve the people of Kibra and to ensure that their policies and aspirations are met,” he said.
“I want to urge Kenyans to remain peaceful as we wait for the announcement of the 5th president of this country.”
Peter Orero (ODM) garnered 33,008 votes, footballer MacDonald Mariga (UDA) garnered 20,049 votes, and Imran got 18,901 votes.
Other candidates were Karanja Peris Wanjiru – 944 votes, Noah Yusuf -528 votes Malasen Hamida – 408 votes and Obayi Ochieng Erick – 203 votes.
