On Saturday, a Kimilili politician’s aide, Brian Khaemba, will be laid to rest in Malava, Kakamega county.
Prior to burial, a requiem mass was held for the deceased on Friday.
On August 9, 2022, Olunga is said to have been murdered by Kimilili MP-elect Didmus Barasa.
The DAP-K party, on whose ticket Khaemba ran for the Kimilili MP seat, mourned Olunga and called for justice.
“As we bid him goodbye, we pray for nothing but justice to his family and the culprit to be held liable,” the Party’s Twitter handle reads.
Barasa is currently being held in custody after the prosecution requested more time to complete the murder investigation and allow more witnesses, including NYS and IEBC officials, to record statements.
A court ruling on Tuesday added his detention by ten days.
The case will be mentioned on August 24 in order for DPP Noordin Haji to confirm the status of the investigations before deciding whether to charge.
According to a police report filed on Election Day, Barasa and Khaemba got into an argument, prompting Khaemba to exit his vehicle.
Barasa allegedly drew a pistol, aimed at Khaemba’s aide Brian Olunga, and shot him in the forehead, killing him instantly.
On arrival at Kimilili Subcounty Hospital, he was pronounced dead.
Barasa denied the allegations, saying he wanted to know who killed the aide as well.
