Kibugu Carts Away Karen Challenge Golf Prize

Muthaiga junior golfer Njoroge Kibugu is the new champion of Karen Challenge Trophy, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 72 Karen Country and golf club.

His impressive five under par 67 in the last round on Sunday earned the junior player the top prize with five under par 211 after managing to sink level par in round one on Friday and same score in round 2 on Saturday to edge out experienced players on the course.

The three day 54-hole that teed off on Friday also counts for the World Amateur Ranking and the champion was the only Kenyan golfer to make the cut during the Magical Kenya Open Golf championships in March at the Karen.

Kibugu also represented Kenya at the 2022 All Africa Junior Golf Challenge played at the Palm Hills Golf Course in Giza, Egypt and beat Nyali’s Adel Balala to second with four under par 212 with two over par 74 in round one, level par in round 2 and sunk the lowest gross in round three at six under par 66. Balala was also in team Kenya for Victoria Cup victory.

Another junior golfer Tuimur Malik also from Muthaiga completed the podium with two over par 218. He managed to sink level in round one, two over in round two then level in round three.

The Kenya Cup, who led the country to clinch both the Region VI and Victoria Cup came a distance 4th with four over par 220.

On his road to the 4th position, he fired a whooping five over par 77 in the last round despite having level par in round one, shooting the lowest gross in round two at one under par 71 he went deep with five over 77.
