Migori: Police Discover Rifles At Widow’s Home

Two weapons, 16 rounds of ammunition, and four teargas canisters have been confiscated by Migori police from a residence in Ntunyigi village, Kuria West Sub County.

Cleti Kimaiyo, the area police chief, stated that officers acting on a tip-off entered the residence of a recently buried individual and recovered the illegal weapons.

“We recovered the weapons in two houses at the home of the deceased. His two widows helped in the search efforts after we got wind of the information from members of the public,” Kimaiyo said.

He said police recovered an AK-47 rifle and 16 rounds of ammunition from one of the widows identified as Lydia Ghati.

“We recovered the weapon from a makeshift house in her farm before heading to her co-wife’s house,” police added.

The second weapon, a 1985 tiny brown pistol, was discovered stashed in a box, according to Kimaiyo.

They were then escorted to a strong room at the home of her co-wife, Josephine Mogeira.

“When we visited the home in Namba area, Mogeira led us to a strong room where a safe was found,” police added.

Police broke the locks and recovered four tear gas canisters and a khaki rifle sling. The weapons are in police possession pending ballistic analysis.
