Kakamega Decides: Barasa Decries Voter Bribery

He says the residents should be allowed to vote without intimidation and threats maintaining that peace should prevail during the election.

Kakamega ODM gubernatorial candidate Fernandes Barasa has decried low voter turnout and accused his competitor Cleophas Malala of voter bribery as residents take to the ballot to elect their Governor.

Barasa has now called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to commence investigations on the ANC party candidate saying his actions amount to electoral malpractices.

“I have inspected various polling centers in Matungu and there is a lot of voter bribery which in my opinion is an election offence and I want to urge IEBC and all the security agencies to make sure they take action so that people can vote freely without intimidation,” Barasa said.

He stated that he had evidence and that his team has already reported to the appropriate authorities and is waiting for them to take action against those who are distributing money to voters.

He says the residents should be allowed to vote without intimidation and threats maintaining that peace should prevail during the election.

Due to confusion on ballot papers, the gubernatorial election was postponed and rescheduled for Monday, August 29th.

Barasa voted at Bulimbo Primary School with his wife, Prof. Janet Kasilly Barasa, on Monday morning and urged residents to exercise their democratic rights.

Barasa is squaring it out with Kenya Kwanza Alliance Cleophas Malala, and Cyrus Jirongo among others for the opportunity to succeed outgoing Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
