Forbes Magazine has published a list of the top twenty African artists.
According to the magazine, West and Southern African artists dominate the list of the continent’s top acts, with the magazine determining who made the list based on Spotify monthly listeners and YouTube total average views.
The magazine also examined the artists’ social media following to see how they commanded numbers on online platforms.
Only two East African artists made the cut, both from Tanzania: Diamond Platnumz and Rayvanny.
Diamond Platnumz is also one of the continent’s highest-paid artists, ranking alongside artists such as Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid.
Three female musicians were also named among the continent’s top 20 musicians.
Angélique Kidjo of Benin topped the list, followed by South African musical legend Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Nigerian songstress Tiwa Savage.
According to Forbes Africa, these musicians have successfully told the African experience through music ranging from Amapiano to Afrobeats, capturing the attention of listeners all over the world and causing them to sit up straight for African music.
Their professional achievements have not only earned them international acclaim and fame, but have also increased the value of their possessions.
