Elachi Asks Parliament To Resolve FIFA Stalemate

Elachi noted that the 13th parliament must table a motion to discuss measures to be taken in accordance with FIFA directives in order for the suspension to be lifted.

Beatrice Elachi, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Dagoretti North, now wants the National Assembly to intervene in efforts to resolve the Kenya-FIFA standoff, which has resulted in the country’s suspension from international football.

Speaking in an interview, Elachi noted that the 13th parliament must table a motion to discuss measures to be taken in accordance with FIFA directives in order for the suspension to be lifted.

“It’s so sad seeing talent going to waste because people are not willing to talk. Football is among the key sports disciplines in the country that market the country worldwide and it shouldn’t suffer because of what appears to narrow down to personal differences.

“As the members of the 13th parliament, it’s our duty to discuss how this can be resolved. It is my expectation that we will move with speed as soon as the administration is in place,” the former Nairobi County Assembly Speaker said.

The world football governing body suspended Kenya from all football activities indefinitely on Thursday, February 24, 2022, citing government interference in the country’s running of the sport.

That came after the Ministry of Sports through Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohammed disbanded the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) national office, which was led by Nick Mwendwa, and appointed a Caretaker Committee to oversee football activities in Kenya.

Amina has been unwavering in her stance, refusing to reinstate the ousted FKF officials as FIFA requires, going on to appoint two Transition Committees after the Caretaker Committee’s six-month tenure lapsed.
