Kericho Governor Dr. Erick Mutai has led an operation to flush out a private investor who allegedly grabbed a two-acre plot of land meant for a dumpsite in Kericho.
A group of residents led by the Governor tore down the fence that surrounded the parcel of land. Mutai stated that the action should serve as a warning to any land grabber.
He claimed that more than 20 acres of land have been illegally taken in Kericho, and that plans are in the works to reclaim all public land that has been illegally taken.
“As a custodian of public property, I will remain steadfast in protecting whatever belongs to the people,” he said after the exercise.
Governor Mutai has further directed the county secretary to publish all public land and owners notified to vacate.
The governor also said before taking action on the grabbed land, his government will move in and pull down all structures established on the same land.
