Joho Laughs Off UDA ‘Threats’

Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho claims that being in the opposition is not a death sentence.

Speaking after witnessing Abdulswamad Nassir’s inauguration as governor on Thursday, Joho said a UDA MP had recently taunted him about the issue.

“I want to tell him today, look for an idiot to intimidate but not me. I told him you being an MP is a small position I held many years ago,” Joho said.

Joho was the Member of Parliament for Kisauni before being elected governor of Mombasa in 2013.

He has been a fiery ODM and Azimio leader, and he publicly stated during the 2022 campaigns that if his party’s leader Raila Odinga wins the presidency, he will become a State House operative.

However, in the August presidential election, Raila was defeated by UDA presidential candidate William Ruto, who is now Kenya’s fifth President.

Despite the loss, Joho stated that a leader of his caliber cannot be intimidated by young legislators simply because he is in the opposition.

“Ati mimi Hassan Joho nitishwe na mjumbe wa UDA?” Joho posed.

“Kuna watu wa kutisha na watu huwezi watisha my friend,” he added.

The immediate former governor has promised to support his successor as he assumes county leadership.

Nassir, who, like Joho, is assuming county leadership with his deputy Francis Thoya after serving as an MP.
