Ruto Meets KK Leaders Ahead of Cabinet Naming

President William Ruto will meet with his Kenya Kwanza elected leaders in Naivasha this afternoon to outline his legislative agenda, which will include a plan to reverse the high cost of living, which has been exacerbated by an increase in fuel and power prices, as well as rally them to approve his Cabinet secretary nominees as soon as possible.

According to leaders, Dr. Ruto will use the meeting to rally his team to expedite his agenda in both the Senate and the National Assembly.

Dr. Ruto wants to control key House committees, with the exception of the Public Accounts Committee, the Public Investments Committee, and the Implementation Committee, which are reserved for the coalition that has yet to form government.

The retreat will also cover the unveiling of Cabinet members and how MPs will be required to expedite their vetting in order for the President to implement his bottom-up economic agenda.

According to sources in President Ruto’s camp, he will most likely unveil his Cabinet immediately following the retreat.

“We will have the retreat to galvanise our leadership strategy, which we will apply in this administration,” said United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman Johnson Muthama.

Another topic on the agenda for the retreat is how Dr. Ruto and Parliament can come up with a formula to reduce the high cost of fuel after suspending subsidies.

“The fuel prices will come down and we will discuss that in our retreat. What has been announced is something he had been planning before Kenya Kwanza came to power. Let Kenyans give the government a little time and it will be solved,” said Mr Wainaina.

Kilifi North MP Owen Baya stated that they will put their house in order to make it easier to deliver on campaign promises.

“Venue is yet to be disclosed. Agenda is basically agreeing on House leadership, committees and legislative agenda to enhance the life of Kenyans and structuring the legislative agenda on the bottom-up economic model,” he said.

Dr. Ruto will use the retreat, according to Emgwen MP Josses Lelmengit, to emphasize the need for Kenya Kwanza MPs to help his administration push an agenda that directly affects Kenyans.

The housing project and the National Hospital Insurance Funds are at the top of his priority list (NHIF).

Dr. Ruto promised during campaigns that no Kenyan would have to pay hospital bills because everyone would be insured, and he now wants his MPs to pass legislation on the subject as soon as possible.
