Didmus Barasa Asks Ruto To Scrap CBC ‘Burden’

Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has urged the new administration to scrap the Competency-Based Curriculum, claiming that teachers are taking advantage of the new education system to exploit parents.

Speaking at a function in Bungoma on Thursday, September 16, the legislator urged President William Ruto to scrap the new curriculum and return to the traditional 8-4-4 system.

The contentious MP sensationally claimed that teachers are using CBC to fleece parents.

Barasa alleged that the tutors take advantage of the heavily demanding curriculum to cunningly ask learners to bring chicken to school for practicals with the intention of carrying the poultry home for food.

Hiyo CBC tunataka iondolewe kabisa,” he added amid laughter from the congregants.

The lawmaker said this was one of the reasons President William Ruto’s administration is contemplating abolishing the CBC.

On September 13, Ruto confirmed that his administration will review the curriculum that was implemented in 2017.

During his inauguration ceremony at Kasarani Stadium, Kenya’s fifth President stated that his administration will establish an Education Reform Task Force to solicit Kenyans’ input on the curriculum.

“We will establish an Education Reform Task Force in the Presidency which will be launched in the coming weeks,” he said.
