NEMA, Nakuru Join Forces To Regulate Kayole Dumpsite

The National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) has teamed up with the County Government of Nakuru to effectively manage the notorious Kayole dumping site.

The Regulator has directed the County Government to implement a ten-point directive issued by the court to ensure environmentally safe disposal of waste.

NEMA Board led by Chairman Eric Mungai toured Kayole dumping site to inspect compliance with the court order.

NEMA will report its findings to court on 7th October when the case comes up for mention.

The regulator thanked the County Government for containing and sorting solid waste to ensure compliance with the EMCA Act.

The Nakuru County Government has fenced off the 25-acre Kayole site, planted trees around it, and stopped the burning of waste.

Other measures instigated include the weighing of the waste and the introduction of dumping fees.
