Pre Trial For Case Challenging Gladys Wanga Win Begins

The pre-trial hearing in a case challenging Gladys Wanga’s election as governor of Homa Bay is scheduled to begin today, Friday.

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero filed a petition in the High Court challenging the IEBC results that were used to declare Wanga as county governor.

“We believe our victory was stolen and we need it back. IEBC declared our opponent as the winner with wrong results,” Kidero said.

Wanga and her running mate Oyugi Magwanga were declared the winners by Homa Bay IEBC returning officer Fredrick Apopa with 244,559 votes to Kidero and his running mate Elijah Kodo’s 154,182 votes.

Kidero and his legal team arrived at the court early Friday, waiting for Justice Roselyn Aburili to arrive and begin the proceedings.

Lawyers for the respondents and deputy governor Magwanga are also present in court.

In this case, Kidero is requesting an examination of the election materials as well as a vote recount.

He wishes to be declared the winner if the court confirms and agrees to his demands.

The petition lists Wanga, Magwanga, and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission as respondents.

Kidero ran as an independent candidate for Homa Bay governor, while Wanga was elected on the ODM party ticket.
