Detective Constable Gerald Okemwa, a fraud Investigator told the Court that the suspects were arrested at JKIA while travelling to Cyprus.

Two Cyprus Citizens were today arraigned at Milimani Law courts with the offence of engaging in organized criminal activities.

According to the charge sheet, the two Cypriots Peter Adekunle Olapepo and Ayodi Bamise Alabi, on September 30, 2022, at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport attempted to steal.

Detective Constable Gerald Okemwa, a fraud Investigator told the Court that the suspects were arrested at JKIA while travelling to Cyprus.

According to the officer, they were detained for three days following Court’s detention order.
He approached the Court to object to their release on bond stating that they are foreigners and have no known place of abode hence they are a flight risk.

He also urged the court to consider the nature of the case which involves other Countries. He requested the Court to detain the two until the case is heard and determined.

However, the two foreigners stated that nothing was recovered from their laptops that would warrant the police suspecting them.

They informed the Court that they were traveling back to school at Cyprus International University and that their colleagues at the University must be concerned about their whereabouts.

The learned magistrate directed the prosecution to conduct a thorough investigation to confirm whether it was true that the students had committed crimes in other countries.

The court was satisfied that as the IO stood in the dock, he did not serve the court with any material evidence to prove that the two students were wanted criminals in other Jurisdictions.
