The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has completed its investigation into three separate corruption incidents in which senior Siaya County Government officials are accused of embezzling Ksh.872 million.
In a statement issued on Monday, EACC stated that it had searched all of the designated locations and seized a variety of critical documentary, electronic, and other relevant material that will aid ongoing investigations.
“The Commission is analyzing the evidence to determine the culpable persons and possible asset recovery,” EACC said.
Senior Siaya County officials are accused of withdrawing Ksh.400 million from county coffers in a series of suspicious withdrawals within 12 days of the August elections in one of the incidents.
According to the EACC, this occurred despite a directive from the new Governor, James Orengo, to halt procurements, allowance payments, and pending bills.
In the second case, the anti-graft agency is investigating allegations of abuse of office and fraudulent acquisition of public funds totaling Ksh.72 million in the installation of an ICU Unit at Siaya Referral Hospital.
“The funds were allegedly disbursed when the hospital opened an ICU Department, but no equipment was purchased. Instead, the County Government installed ventilators that Kijabe Hospital had previously donated “EACC stated.
The commission is also looking into allegations that the Siaya County Government fraudulently obtained Ksh.400 million for the construction of an Ultra-Modern stadium.
It is alleged that after the construction work was awarded to a contractor, the former Siaya Governor irregularly redesigned the stadium and varied the initial cost, resulting in a Ksh.400 million loss of public funds.
The anti-graft detectives raided a high-end residential home belonging to an Imprest Accountant at the Siaya County Government.
