The administration has debunked a photo circulating on the internet of a claimed notice declaring Monday, October 24, a public holiday.
The forgery gazette notice, dated October 23, is credited to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and declares a public holiday without specifying what is being observed.
This comes after weeks of discussion about whether the government will designate Monday a holiday to allow Kenyans to celebrate the Diwali celebration.
The Interior Ministry, on the other hand, dismissed the gazette notice as bogus and asked Kenyans to disregard it.
Diwali, the five-day ‘Festival of Lights’ observed by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains worldwide, falls on Monday this year.
