The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched a high-level investigation into 112 cases of enforced disappearance in the country.
The oversight body stated that their investigation into the disappearance of two Indian nationals and a Kenyan driver in July is narrowing down to the disbanded special service unit.
According to the IPOA, the latest case on their radar is that of a Pakistani national who was allegedly killed last evening in Kajiado county.
Addressing the media, IPOA chair Ann Makori stated that the organization is committed to conducting independent investigations into cases of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.
“On the Pakistan killing, our rapid response team has already been dispatched to investigate the killing of the journalist,” she said.
According to Makori, no suspected police-committed death will go without investigation.
IPOA noted the strong stand by President Ruto against extra judicial killings.
Makori stated that they have launched an audit of the disbanded unit and other NPS formations to determine their veracity.
She however noted that they had encountered non-cooperation within the NPS on a few occasions.
