In new regulations, the National Treasury has cleared the way for County governments to pursue public-private partnerships.
The new draft 2022 Private Public Partnerships (PPP) Regulations allow a county government’s accounting officer to approve a list of PPP projects before submitting it to the County Assembly for approval.
A county government that intends to embark on a public-private partnership project must form a county project implementation team in consultation with the Treasury’s PPP Directorate.
Stakeholder input on the draft regulations is currently being solicited through the public participation process.
The Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) Committee is mandated to facilitate the implementation of the Public-Private Partnership Programme and Projects in Kenya.
The PPP framework has over the years enabled the Government of Kenya to implement high-quality infrastructure projects, especially in the energy and roads sectors.Â
