Nairobi Governor Sakaja’s New Cabinet Line Up

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has unveiled his Cabinet nominees, who will now be vetted by the City County Assembly.

Sakaja made the announcement in Nairobi on Wednesday, noting that if the 19 County Executive Committee (CEC) member nominees are approved to hold the dockets, they will take office mid-next month.

“We have, following continued consultations with the people of Nairobi, set out our priority areas to get Nairobi moving.  We shall do this by creating an environment that promotes citizen engagement, and makes it easy for you to access services,” said Sakaja.

“Today, we introduce the nominees for County Executive Committee Members for Nairobi City County Government. This team of men and women have been carefully selected to meet the challenge of the responsibility before them.”

Charles Kerich has been nominated to serve as CEC for Finance and Economic Affairs, while Michael Gumbo has been recommended to serve as CEC for Innovation and Digital Economy.

Brian Mulama and Patrick Mbogo have been proposed for the CEC positions of Talent and Skills Development and Mobility and Works, respectively, while Stephen Gathuita Mwangi and Ibrahim Auma Nyanganya will lead the Urban Planning and Boroughs Administration and Personnel dockets, respectively, if approved.

Rosemary Kariuki’s name has been proposed for the position of Business and Hustler Opportunities CEC.

Sakaja says Nyanganya and Kariuki will report to his deputy, Njoroge Muchiri.

Sakaja’s list also includes Maureen Njeri (Green Nairobi), Dr. Anastacia Mutethya Nyalita (Health, Wellness, and Nutrition), and Suzanne Silantoi (Inclusivity, Public Participation and Customer Service).

Dr. Jairus Musumba has been nominated for County Secretary, as have David Njoroge (Chief of Staff), Lawrence Wambua (Economic Affairs Advisor), Elias Mutuma (Legal Advisor), Dr. Samora Otieno (Health Advisor), and William Ndung’u (Political Advisor).

Prof. Washington Yotto Ochieng (Mobility Advisor), John Mwangi Maina (Urban and Regional Planning), and Priscilla Mahinda (Private Secretary) will also join Sakaja’s cabinet if approved.
