Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza responding to the EACC letter dated October 19, 2022, has said in she was unanimously elected by the people of Meru County.
Kawira said that the petition was maliciously filed by people who are hell-bent to cripple her administration and service delivery to the people of Meru County.
Kawira through her Lawyer Dunstan Omari reiterated that It is utterly untrue that she has directed county employees to participate in furthering the interest of Baite TV.
She also said It is not also true that Baite TV is owned by her husband, Mr. Murega Baichu.
She told EACC to put her accusers to strict proof by way of cogent evidence on the ownership of Baite TV. The said TV station is owned by a limited liability company in which Mr. Murega Baichu is neither a director nor a shareholder.
On the issue of Failure to Protect Public Resources, she avers that it is not correct that Meru County Teaching and Referral Hospital is spending income at source as alleged.
It is her submission that the hospital is a gazetted level 5 hospital in the process of transiting to level six and it has fully constituted and gazetted the Board of Management.
On the issues of Nepotism; she confirmed that it is not true that she has appointed her spouse to a public office going by the name County Youth Patron and Hustlers’ Ambassador.
Further, she avers that there is no such public office by that name in the County Government.
She pointed out that she has performed her mandates as a female leader under the guidance of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 as read together with all other enabling laws and policies that enable her to effectively perform her functions as the governor of Meru County.
