The famous late Baby Pendo received Justice five years after her gruesome death at the hands of law enforcement officers.
The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions is set to prosecute officers responsible for the death of Baby Pendo.
The DPP has said that it is prepared to proceed with the case against police officers responsible for the death of Baby Pendo and other atrocities committed during the 2017 post-election period in Kisumu.
According to DPP, the officers will be charged under the International Crimes Act No.16 of 2008.
According to ODPP, several human rights violation cases were reported to have been committed by police officers in informal settlements of Nyalenda, Nyamasaria, Kondele, and Obunga in Kisumu County in the context of 2017 general elections.
The ODPP has confirmed that the initial investigations were carried out by DCI which forwarded the file to DPP for perusal and advice.
Upon perusal, the DPP established that the suspects had not been identified and hence directed the case to be dealt with by way of a public inquest.
After the DPP perused the inquest proceedings and the Judgement, the DPP established that the murder was committed by or under the authority of senior national police officers who apart from the execution of baby Pendo, committed other crimes such as; torture, rape, and sexual violence.
Among those expected to be charged are the sector commanders of Nyalenda, Nyamasaria, Kondole, and Obunga at the time of the crimes.
