Missing Form Four Student Found Dead

The student from Nyahururu Elite Secondary School went missing on Thursday while hiking at Mt. Longonot in Nakuru County.

Mutua Kisilu, the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) of Naivasha, has confirmed the death of the student who went missing while hiking onMt Longonot.

A multi-agency rescue team spotted the boy as he approached the mountain’s summit on Friday morning.

By the time he was discovered, the boy had bruises on his hands, indicating that he had fallen along the way and he was also breathing heavily.

As a result, the multi-agency team airlifted the student to a Nairobi hospital for treatment, but he was declared dead upon arrival.

According to the school’s principal, Simon Gacheru Macharia, 26 Form Four students and ten teachers went on the hike with another group of about 70 people on Thursday.

Two hours into the hike, one of the students, Enock Balemba, 17, reportedly became restless and told one of his classmates that he couldn’tgo on.

The student, who is the school captain, sat down and remained behind, but then reportedly stood up and ran towards the thickets, where h vanished.

The teachers then decided to report the incident to the Longonot KWS camp, where KWS Officers assisted in the search until 8 p.m., but the student could not be found.
