Wafula Wamunyinyi, the DAP-K party’s leader, has entered the race for the Bungoma Senator.
The DAP-K party said in a statement on Saturday that the leader will run in the December by-elections.
“It is now official that our Party’s leader, Wafula Wamunyinyi, will run in the December by-elections for the Bungoma County Senatorial seat. Wamunyinyi is relying on his extensive experience as a legislator, liberation fighter, and farmer defender to win the seat “The statement reads.
The position fell vacant after the resignation of Moses Wetangula to vie for the Country’s National Assembly Speaker.
Wamunyinyi lost his Kanduyi parliamentary seat in the August 9 elections.
He lost to John Makali of Ford Kenya.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati stated in a gazette notice that the elections will take place on December 8.
So far, more than 15 people have expressed interest in the seat, including Wetang’ula’s aide Wafula Wakoli, businessmen Joseph Lendrix Waswa and Jacob Machacha, Rev Herman Kasili, lawyer Erick Nakhurenya, and former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga.
