Aisha Jumwa, the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Public Service, Affirmative Action, and Gender, has pledged to take care of the welfare of Kenyan public service employees in order to raise their morale and hence increase productivity.
The CS added that there are at least 900,000 employees serving 50 million Kenyans, making their work difficult and necessitating the need for motivation.
In this regard, Jumwa said a technical committee will be formed to review the salaries of all civil servants.
A technical committee would be established, according to Jumwa, to assess the pay of all civil servants.
“Civil servants are the most demoralized lot and with the high cost of living caused by the ongoing inflation in the country, they are unable to cope. They also need to be motivated so that they can serve Kenyans better, we are going to review their pay as the first step towards this journey,” said Jumwa.
The CS addressed some public employees from the Huduma Kenya Secretariat who were undergoing induction while on a visit to the Mombasa campus of the Kenya School of Government (KSG).
She praised the Huduma Kenya secretariat, claiming that it had done a fantastic job of providing the general public with government services.
According to Jumwa, the government is collaborating with parliamentarians to expand the nation’s Huduma Center network.
Jumwa, who took over this week, stated that she is on a mission to get to know the administration of the Kenya School of Government (KSG), the Mombasa Campus, the Mombasa County Commissioner and his staff, the county’s security force, among other local government officials.
The CS also examined the newly built KSG building, which will be formally inaugurated by President William Ruto at a later date that has not yet been disclosed.
