The petition challenging the election of Makueni governor Mutula Kilonzo jnr filed in the Makueni High Court officially begins today.
The petition was filed by his opponent in the August 9 election Dr. Patrick Musimba.
Musimba claims the election was not free and fair and wants Governor Mutula’s victory to be annulled and the IEBC to hold another election.
According to Musimba, KIEMS kit machines failed to function in some polling stations thus making the election unclear.
In the petition, Musimba named Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Makueni county returning officer and Mutula Jnr as the first, second and third respondents, respectively.
Mutula Jnr was declared the county’s governor-elect after the August elections.
Mutula Jnr was contesting on a Wiper Party ticket and garnered 214,088 votes ahead of his closest rival, Musimba, who scored 63,252 votes.
