Machakos Law court is planning to listen and determine all seventy-two pending cases of children.
Speaking in Machakos town while educating residents on children’s rights, senior magistrate (children’s court) Machakos Mary Otindo has confirmed they will work on 34 cases where children are remanded for different offences and later 38 other cases which have taken more than three years in our court.
Most of these cases have taken a long time to be determined because of a lack of witnesses and mostly stating lack of evidence.
“We will first work on the 34 cases where children are remanded then the other 38 cases. We will ensure justice is served.”Said Otindo
Salome, Machakos children’s officer says parents should be responsible on their children’s movement stating it’s the right of children to be protected.
During the peaceful demonstration, the children’s officer warned women against keeping quiet when children are defiled.
“Most women tend to hide when these cases happen in their homes because they are afraid of where to go especially those who were born out of wedlock. Stop this behaviour and report to children’s offices for necessary action to be taken. Young children are not your wives or husbands and anyone found guilty or suspects will face the law.”
She says every parent should be responsible for their children’s movement, as the law will not close their eyes, saying a parent can pay a fine of up to one million for negligence.
“Parents, you need to know the movement of your children. It is good to discuss with your children their activities. You need to know how they spend their day. Children should be nurtured and taken care of.”
Parents have been assured that children will be served in their courts, saying children below the age of 18 years are under the care of their parents, and working to eliminate all cases of defilement in Machakos.
