Hundreds of fake Kenya Revenue Authority stamps were found during a search on Bongo Enterprises Limited by DCI detectives and KRA officers, which resulted in the closure of an unlawful alcohol production facility in Njiru, Nairobi County.

“During the early morning raid led by sleuths from the Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit, over 5,000 stickers of an alcoholic drink identified as Bongo Vodka were also seized, as detectives intensify a crackdown on counterfeit and illegal products that are finding their way to shelves in the local market,” said DCI.

“Today’s raid follows a recent directive by His Excellency President William Ruto to the police, to conduct intelligence-led operations targeting counterfeit goods, after it was discovered that crooked businessmen had devised ways of evading taxation,” DCI added.

The factory’s employees, who appeared to have learned of the investigators’ approaching arrival, hurriedly left the building, leaving the equipment used to make the highly potent liquor screaming with vigor.

Detectives are currently searching for the proprietors of the plant on the Njiru-Mwiki route; once apprehended, they will be held strictly accountable for their conduct.
