Mohamed Hassan has said Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi was ready to accommodate him in his government if he withdrew the election petition against him.
Hassan told an election court the governor sought to meet him in his office, but he declined. He instead met him at a city hotel.
According to the businessman, he informed Ahmed that he was prepared to join the county administration if it was done legally.
“My instructions say that when you met with him, you really [stated] that you were prepared to bury the hatchet and withdraw the matter provided the governor backed you for the job of speaker,” Omwanza Ombati, the governor’s Advocate told Hassan
Hassan claimed in his petition that Ahmed was not duly elected governor.
According to the businessman, the IEBC did not implement systems to verify that voters were biometrically recognized before voting for candidates at a number of polling stations around the county.
Hassan further claimed that the process was plagued by vote tampering, exaggerated voter turnout, irregular and illegal aided voting, and the unlawful eviction of his agents from multiple polling stations in the Wajir East and Wajir West constituencies.
He further claimed that the electoral commission illegally postponed the poll in Eldas constituency in Wajir county to August 10.
The businessman stated that no notification was provided to the candidates regarding the postponement, despite the fact that they had already dispatched their agents to their respective polling sites.
“As a result of this illegal postponement, there was interference with the voting held on August 10 this year, with reports of voter intimidation and coercion at multiple polling stations in Eldas constituency,” Hassan added.
Hassan is requesting that the court rule that the governor and his deputy were not duly elected.
