Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga Surrenders To Police

Kisumu city manager Abala Wanga appeared before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Gem, Yala sub-county, on Tuesday to record a statement in the aftermath of the chaos that rocked the South Gem Ward by-election at Kambare polling station.

In a statement to the media, Gem DCI officer Sammy Mbarani stated that they summoned Mr. Wanga after it was revealed that he was the main financier of the chaos.

During the chaos, seven vehicles were destroyed, another was set on fire, and 15 people were injured, six of whom are still being treated at the Siaya County Referral Hospital.

Mr. Wanga, for his part, requested that the police summon area Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo to explain his knowledge of the chaos.

Apart from the chaos at the Kambare polling station, other polling stations, according to the Kisumu City Manager, experienced intimidation and thus played a role in voter suppression.

Two more suspects who were arrested with crude weapons on the day of voting at the Kambare polling station are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

Their case was postponed last Friday after the police requested more time to gather evidence.
