The Kakamega County government will sponsor Otieno Lewis Omondi Glen, one of the two top candidates in the KCPE results released on Wednesday, through high school.
Governor Ferandes Barasa made the announcement on Wednesday after celebrating with Otieno at his school, St. Peters Mumias Boys Primary.
Otieno emerged top in Kenya after scoring 431 marks. He tied with Fwaro Makokha Robinson of Christ the King Primary School in Bungoma.
“Good academic results are as a result of deliberate efforts from teachers, parents, learners and the community. Congratulations St. Peters Mumias Boys Primary for placing Kakamega County on the National map, by producing the best student,” Governor Barasa said.
“The County Government of Kakamega will sponsor the top student, Otieno Lewis Omondi Glen, through his Secondary Education,” he added.
Otieno and Makokha led a total of 1,233,850 candidates who took the exams in 28,408 locations across the country.
While announcing the results, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu stated that the majority of the candidates (50.2%) got between 200 and 299 marks out of a possible 500.
Some 9,443 candidates got more than 400 marks, accounting for 0.01% of the total number of candidates, while 307,756 others got between 300 and 399 points, accounting for 24.94% of this year’s class.
At the same time, 296,336 candidates (24.4%) scored in the 100-199 range, while 724 candidates (0.06% of the class) scored below 100.
