The quarrel between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has devolved into a full-fledged political squabble between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Azimio la Umoja.
A group of Azimio parliamentarians from Western Kenya chastised the second in command for exceeding his authority by attempting to micromanage the Nairobi county government.
The legislators, led by Busia women representative Catherine Omanyo, slammed Gachagua for failing to perform his duties as assigned by President William Ruto.
“Why is Gachagua only talking and defending his Kikuyu tribe? He should be reminded that he’s not a Kikuyu Deputy President… He is supposed to make sure that he throws eyes across all Kenya and make sure every tribe is inclusive,” Omanyo reiterated.
Omanyo, who was joined by fellow Azimio MPs from the country’s west, including Sirisia MP John Waluke and Kakamega women’s representative Elsie Muhanda, accused Gachagua of indulging in tribal politics.
Gachagua had cautioned Sakaja about his plans to shift long-distance public service vehicles (PSVs) from Nairobi Central District to Green Park terminal.
Gachagua chastised the Nairobi chief for pursuing Mt Kenya businesspeople.
“We do not want his high speed and I have summoned him for a sitting…It is a no for any of his decisions that might have a negative effect on our people,” Gachagua stated.
