Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja’s appointments to the County Chief Officers dockets have been criticized by the Kenya County GovernmentWorkers Union.
Festus Ngari, Nairobi Staff Branch Secretary, has expressed concern that the people appointed to the various dockets lack the professional qualifications required to restore order and dignity to the city.
Ngari described the appointments as a “continuity of impunity seen in the previous regime, particularly on financial impropriety and indiscipline”.
He has praised Sakaja’s appointments to County Executive Committee members as balanced, noting that the same trend should have been established in the appointment of CCOs.
“After striking a political balance in appointing CECs, the Sakaja administration should have been very clear about what happens to the CCOs, who are the operatives and accounting officers,” Ngari said.
According to Ngari, the county government has ten sectors, the majority of which are regulated by professional bodies such as the Institute of Engineers of Kenya, the Law Society of Kenya, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, and the Institute of Certified Secretaries, to name a few, while others require advanced academic credentials.
