Murkomen Suspends Modern Coast Bus

Murkomen has also asked that all passengers who have booked with the firm be assisted so that they can travel safely and smoothly to their destinations.

Kipchumba Murkomen, CS of Roads and Transport, suspended the Modern Coast’s operating license.

As investigations into the Wednesday accident in Kisii continue, the CS has asked NTSA to cease all bus operations with immediate effect.

“This raises concerns about the state of operations and safety levels at the bus company coming just months after the River Nithi accident that occurred on July 24, leaving 36 people dead and many others injured,” the CS said.

Murkomen has also asked that all passengers who have booked with the firm be assisted so that they can travel safely and smoothly to their destinations.

The suspension comes after a company bus was involved in a traffic accident on Wednesday.

The bus was traveling from Mombasa to Homa Bay when the tragedy occurred, killing one person who was strolling along the road and injuring numerous people on board.

Murkomen conducted a joint news conference with the Interior CS on December 20 to explain several actions that motorists, PSV owners, and passengers must do to avoid road carnage throughout the holiday season and beyond.

Among these measures were the need to ensure that cars were well-serviced and drivers were well-rested before hitting the road, as well as the right display and positioning of signs such as triangles, chevrons, and retro-reflective.

Other requirements included hauling stalled cars within one hour, adhering to speed restrictions and passenger capacity, following approved routes, and paying attention to traffic signals and lights.
