Kivutha Kibwana Asks Kalonzo to Ditch Azimio

Kivutha also issued a warning to Kalonzo and the political bloc in the Lower Eastern region stating that if Kalonzo is not calculative, enough, the Kamba community will be liberated only when Kalonzo disappears from Kenya's political scene.

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka is under increasing pressure to abandon ODM leader Raila Odinga or retire from politics entirely in order to save the Kamba nation.

On Sunday, January 1, the ex-Makueni County governor poured cold water on Kalonzo’s expected big announcement, which could reshape the country’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Wiper leader, according to the former governor, is a regional tycoon who lives in the shadow of Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Prof Kivutha, who joined President William Ruto after the August polls, believes Kalonzo must cut ties with Raila and the entire Azimio outfit for his expected statement to cause political tremors.

“Kalonzo’s statement would be more impactful if he suspended Azimio’s membership.”

“Raila is not about to retire, and even if he did endorse Kalonzo, it is questionable whether that would have any impact,” Kivutha said in a statement.

Kivutha advised Kalonzo to return to his Ukambani backyard and consult his community before launching a new political movement after severing ties with Raila.

“Kalonzo has long behaved like colonial chiefs, advancing only their own interests when in power.”

“To change that, Kalonzo must consider the interests of his community when making a political move,” Kivutha advised the former vice president.

Kivutha also issued a warning to Kalonzo and the political bloc in the Lower Eastern region stating that if Kalonzo is not calculative, enough, the Kamba community will be liberated only when Kalonzo disappears from Kenya’s political scene.
