Government Keen To Support Talent Identification Across The Country

The government, in partnership with both the public and private sector, is keen to support sports development to enhance the growth and nurturing of grassroots talents across the country

Speaking on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Youth Affairs, sport and the Arts Ababu Namwamba, EGH, during the official opening ceremony of the Transcend Talent Academy at Biribiriet in Trans Nzoia county, Deputy Director of Sports Mrs. Caroline Kariuki assured the community of the government’s commitment to ensure sports, in general, is developed and better managed right from grassroots.

This is in line with the government’s bottom-up approach as envisioned by President Willliam Ruto and espoused in the PLAN Manifesto.

Ms. Kariuki lauded Hon. Wesley Korir for promoting the government’s agenda of ensuring talents at the grassroots are spotted and developed to become the next generation of excellent sportsmen and women.

The Transcend Talent Running Academy seeks to admit needy but talented students by identifying, nurturing and developing their talents to ensure they fully exploit their potential, a move that is in line with the ministry’s agenda of growing grassroot sports from Bottom-Up.

The academy’s Patron Hon. Wesley Korir, a globally reknowned athlete, lauded the government through the sports ministry for investing in talents and supporting grassroot sports, saying that it is the only way Kenya can cement its place as a global leader in producing world champions and record breakers in athletics and sports in general.

The Transcend program has so far airlifted 15 students to the United States for University Education since its inception.

Present at the event were Hon. Dr. Robert Pukose Member of Parliament for Entebbes constituency, Members of County Assembly, and a host of local leadership.
