The famous choir that entertained Kenyans during the tallying of the August 9 poll results at the Bomas of Kenya made a special appearance on Kenyan screens on Monday, January 16 to send off Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
The choir made a comeback in the final event that Wafula Chebukati will grace as IEBC chairperson, exactly five months after keeping Kenyans motivated and reminded of their patriotic duty.
The choir gained popularity when it sang during tense moments at Bomas Kenya when the results of the August 9 presidential election were being announced.
The choir, dressed in black with a splash of red, entertained guests at Safari Park on Monday morning before the release of the 2022 Post-Election Evaluation Report.
The report will be Chebukati’s last official act as IEBC chairman having held that position for the constitutionally mandated maximum of 10 years.
On August 15, Kenyans and interested observers were glued to their screens, waiting to see who would succeed then-President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Despite the chaos and disruptions witnessed at Bomas, the choir never stopped singing.
The presidential winner was supposed to be announced at 11 a.m., but that was pushed to 2 p.m., and then to an unknown time.
Despite the delay, the choir demonstrated that they were prepared for the task by simply selecting another song from their repertoire and continuing to manage the tension.
The choir was then regarded as the “Singing heroes at Bomas” on August 15, 2022, when news broke out that UDA’s presidential candidate William Ruto had won the presidential elections.
