Thousands of people are expected to attend the funeral of former Education CS George Magoha.
Magoha, 71, died on January 24 at the Nairobi Hospital.
Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio movement, is expected to attend Magoha’s burial at his Umiru home in Siaya.
Magoha’s body arrived in Siaya on Friday aboard a Kenya Airforce helicopter, where he will be laid to rest.
On Friday evening, Siaya Governor James Orengo welcomed and condoled Magoha’s widow Barbara Magoha at their rural home ahead of the burial.
The day began at 8:30 a.m. with a procession of Academicians from the late Magoha’s Umiru home to Odera Akang’o University in Yala, according to the program.
The requiem Mass for Magoha will then begin at 12.30 p.m., led by the Most Reverend Maurice Muhatia, Archbishop of Kisumu.
The final blessing of the body is scheduled for 3 p.m., after which family members led by the Clergy will accompany the body to his home for the final burial rites. At 3:30 p.m.

Former Jubilee Secretary Raphel Tuju, who will serve as the day’s MC stated that Magoha’s funeral will be completely free of politics.
During the requiem mass at Consolata Shrine on Friday, he stated that the family had requested a service free of politics.
“The family has decided and requested most politely that on this occasion we keep the service dignified and that there will be no politics in our encounter,” Tuju said.
“Please bear with us as a family because it has been extremely difficult.”
Tuju explained that the family had been through a lot over the past year and politics was not welcomed at the service.
