A police operation is currently underway at the Karen home of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
According to reports, the operation is being carried out by a contingent of police officers drawn from various police units, who arrived at the residence in at least six vehicles.
The purpose of the raid is still unknown.
The raid on Matiang’i’s house comes just hours after a court denied the Directorate of Criminal Investigations access to CCTV footage of the former Cabinet Secretary’s Karen home.
In a February 10 application, the DCI asked the court to order the manager of Amsec Security Services, which guards Dr Matiangi’s home, to hand over security footage from 6 a.m. on February 8 to 11 p.m. on February 9.
This is in light of the police raid purported to have taken place on the former Interior CS’s home on the night of February 9 which the DCI dismissed as a “well-coordinated and deliberate attempt to spread false information and incite public fear.”.
The DCI stated in the application before the Nairobi magistrate court that they are investigating an alleged attempted robbery in violation of Section 297 of the Penal Code.
However, the requested orders were denied, with the magistrate ordering that the case be heard on March 7.
Dr. Matiang’i’s lawyer, Danstan Omari, said that the police officers broke into the house and conducted a raid without a court order.
The former CS, according to Omari, was not at home at the time of the raid.
According to the lawyer, the officers carted away various materials after ransacking the house.
