A 17-year-old girl was found breathing just hours before her scheduled post-mortem after being pronounced dead and taken to a mortuary after a mob viciously attacked her for allegedly stealing a bunch of bananas in Apac, Uganda.
After doctors at Apac Hospital discovered the teenager, a Matimia ward native, he was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
She is currently on life support as the doctors at the facility continue to monitor her condition.
“Information was received that she passed away after being beaten by a mob accusing her of theft,” Patrick Jimmy Okema, a North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, told the Monitor.
“Our officers responded to the scene, took statements, and transported her body to the mortuary at Apac main hospital.”
According to Okema, one person has been arrested in connection with the mob attack, but police are still conducting investigations to apprehend additional suspects.
