NEMA and the Machakos County Government have announced efforts to clean up key Machakos communities.
The clean-up will take place later this month and will be led by Governor Wavinya Ndeti.
Eric Mungai, NEMA board Chair, led the regulator delegation to the negotiations on how to clean up Mlolongo and Machakos Town.
Chief of Staff Ngovi, Environment, Water, and Climate Change CEM Anastacia Mutano, and Chief Officer Metho represented the County Government.
Mungai stated that NEMA will provide logistical support to the 47 counties in order to ensure compliance with the EMCA Act 1999.
He said NEMA County Directors have been empowered to fast-track environmental issues including issuance of statutory licences such as EIA licences.
“NEMA board has deployed Regional Directors of Environment to all the former provinces to drive the tree growing campaign, enhance compliance and contact awareness campaigns on unique environmental issues”
Chairman of the Environment Management Technical Committee of the board Mr. Charles Mulila said the authority will deploy teams to all counties to conduct Education campaigns on noise pollution which is a major environmental concern in rural areas.

Mulila said NEMA has partnered with the National government administrators in the 47 counties as part of the one-Government approach in service delivery.
