President William Ruto has stated that the price of Unga will fall beginning next week.
Speaking in Machakos county on Friday, Ruto said imported maize will arrive in Kenya tomorrow (Saturday).
Ruto also called on the opposition to halt planned demonstrations to allow room for dialogue.
“You will see new prices starting next week. We have to balance to make sure even what we import does not hurt our farmers. These people wearing sufurias on their heads should leave me alone to plan everything. They had a chance to plan but failed. They are the ones who watched as prices hit Ksh230,” Ruto said.
“Let them come to Parliament and talk to their colleagues as we plan development with Wavinya (Ndeti).”
“By the end of tomorrow, flour that I imported will have arrived,” he said.
Ruto stated that he will ensure a balance between flour from local producers and imported flour.
Last month, agriculture CS Mithika Linturi assured Kenyans of a significant reduction in Unga prices as the first maize imports arrived.
He confirmed that the country had received the first batch of maize and rice imports, which he said would go a long way towards addressing the current deficit.
