Azimio: Police Pursued Maandamano, Ignored Shakahola ‘Massacre’

Azimio leaders have now accused the government of betraying the people of Kilifi while also calling for the regulation of faith-based organizations.

Azimio, led by National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi and his Senate counterpart Stewart Madzayo, claimed that if local security officers had done their jobs, the mass deaths could have been avoided.

“At the same time, where were the local security officers, including chiefs, police officers, and even NIS?” Madzayo asked.

To avoid abuse, the Ugunja MP advocated for the regulation of all faith-based organizations.

“We support calls for religious entities such as churches, mosques, temples, and synagogues to be regulated,” Wandayi said.

Amina Mnyazi, a Malindi MP, said the revelation exposed government inefficiency, particularly at the grassroots level.

“We should be clear about our priorities; our police officers cannot only be arresting opposition politicians while such an act is taking place in Kilifi,” she said.

According to the leaders, the country’s security team requires a rethink and overhaul.
