First Yatta MP Gedion Mutiso Dies Aged 91

The first Yatta MP Gideon Munyao Mutiso has died at the age of 91.

Mutiso’s death was announced by his family who said he died while undergoing treatment at the MP Shah Hospital, Nairobi on Wednesday.

“We, the Mutiso family wish to confirm the passing on of our patriarch on April 26, 2023, while undergoing treatment at the MP Shah Hospital,” the family statement reads.

“We request prayers, support and privacy during this trying period. Updates on the funeral arrangements will be relayed as soon as possible.”

The family also promised to give regular updates on the funeral plans.

The current  MP for the area Robert Basil was the first to condole with the family which requested for prayers and privacy to grieve.

Basil described Mutiso who also served as an assistant minister for education as a visionary leader “ He set the pace for others like me to run Yatta Constituency with a goal to transform the Sub-county”.

“It is sad to learn about the sudden demise of the first and longest-serving Member of Parliament – Yatta Constituency, Hon. Gedion Munyao Mutiso majorly known as Mutiso wa Yatta. Mutiso was a true visioned leader, who set the pace for others like me to run Yatta Constituency on a goal, A goal to transform Yatta Sub-county,” Basil stated.

“The First Yatta Constituency MP Gedion Mutiso served Yatta Constituency after the colonial period. He truly served Yatta Constituency rightfully and fruitfully. May his family and Yatta people be condoled. May the Almighty God give you strength and comfort you during this hard time. Peace be with you. May our Good gracious God Rest His soul in eternal peace.”
