Jeff Nyagah, the KDF Commander of the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF), has resigned from the peacekeeping mission stating intensified threats to his safety.
Nyagah alleged in a strongly composed letter addressed to the East African Community that anonymous men had been dispatched to survey his house, compelling him to relocate severally.
He also complained about prolonged media attacks aiming at undermining his reputation as the leader of the force operating in the beleaguered Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
According to the letter,”There has been a well-orchestrated and funded negative media campaign targeting my personality, as well as direct written false accusations of EACRF’s complacency in dealing with the M23 group,”.
Nyagah accused the DRC government, which he claimed was interfering with army operations in the area.
“This is exacerbated by the current push by the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo to rotate the FC every three months, which was not anticipated in the current mandate,” Nyagah said.
He also stated that his team’s efforts to promote peace in the Central African country were hampered by a lack of funding, which included the inability to pay administrative bills, energy, and wages for civilian personnel involved in the operation.
