KeNHA: Rogue Truck Drivers Now Targeting Our Patrol Vehicles

The Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) has revealed that some rogue transporters are now targeting their mobile patrol team.

According to Athi River Weighbridge Cluster manager Willie Thuku, they have had incidents where their vehicles have been vandalized by rogue transporters who are obviously overloaded and do not want to weigh their trucks.

We have had incidents where they would track our vehicles through people they have engaged especially boda boda riders to track our vehicles just to ensure we do not catch them in the act,” he said.

Meanwhile, on February, Eng Kennedy Ndugire in charge of Axle Load Control said overloading was responsible for the destruction of the roads infrastructure where the government has invested billions of shillings.

Eng Ndugire said that they are working closely with the police and other government agencies to ensure that heavy-load vehicles obey the set guidelines.

“We have regulations guiding the transportation of heavy loads along the various roads in the East African region which must be obeyed by all road users with those going against the law having their vehicles impounded and held until they pay the set fines,” he said.
