UoN Only Kenyan University Named In World’s Top 2,000

The University of Nairobi is the only Kenyan university to be ranked among the top 2,000 in the world.

The Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR) released its 2023 ranking edition on Monday, and UoN was ranked as the leading higher learning institution in Kenya.

According to CWUR, UoN’s employability rank was 1,610, as measured by the professional success of its alumni, including the number of top positions they have held at major companies relative to the university’s size (25%).

However, UoN’s ranking has dropped from 1,404th in the CWUR 2022 edition.

South Africa had 12 universities on the list, with the University of Cape Town at number 267.

Egypt came in second with 20 universities, with Cairo University ranking first at 520.

With the other three universities, Makerere University in Uganda was ranked 950, and Mohammed V University in Morocco was ranked 953.

Tunis El Manar University, Tunisia’s only university on the list, was ranked 976th, and Nigeria’s University of Ibadan ranked 1,163rd, leading the country’s three other universities on the list.

Tanzania came in last place, with Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences ranking 1,920th.

The methodology used to rank the universities was based on assessments of educational quality (25%), alumni employment (25%), faculty quality (10%), and research performance (40%), with no reliance on surveys or university data submissions.

The United States’ Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University topped the list, followed by the United Kingdom’s University of Cambridge and University of Oxford.
