148 illegally-owned firearms have been surrendered under the ongoing Operation Komesha Uhalifu in the North Rift.
Out of these, 96 have been recovered from Samburu County.
CS Interior Kindiki Kithure has stated that the government won’t give up on the disarming measures and will keep its foot firmly on the pedal to eradicate the decades-long insecurity and violent cattle theft advanced through illegally-owned guns from the region.
The CS has also disclosed that 31 people will be tried for banditry-related offences the following week.
A warrant for an Assistant Chief’s arrest has also been issued, sending a clear signal that the government will unleash a cascade of accountability that will carry responsibility for any criminal conduct down to the individual level and subject them to speedy justice.
