Residents of the border town of Isebania in Migori County have protested and barricaded the busy Migori-Isebania road over rampant insecurity and police laxity.
The residents said that there have been over six cases of insecurity that have resulted in the death of businessmen and ladies and have blamed the police for laxity.
The residents said that the police have never responded in time when the criminals strike and even shoot to kill them while they are doing their business in the busy border town.
They said that last night a businessman Mwangi Mugure was shot at his business premise by eight armed criminals who escaped on a motorbike to the neighboring Sirare town in Tanzania.
They also want the police officers manning Isebania police post to be transferred and other officers brought.
At the same time, Migori County police commander Mark Wanjala said that the latest incident happened last night where a businessman Mwangi Mugure was shot in his head and the police responded but never got to arrest any criminals.
He said that they are following up on leads that could help them commence investigations into the criminal activities in the border town.
Kuria West Sub County commissioner Andrew Mwiti said that they are looking into many issues that may lead to the investigations of the criminals and also make sure that they cooperate with their Tanzania counterparts and help get the criminals who most of the time escape to Tanzania after committing crimes in Kenya.
The business community led by Matiko Bohoko and Samuel Kiboye said that they have had numerous cases of insecurity and want the police officers manning the Isebania police station to be transferred to other places so that the residents can get proper services.
They said that the residents have had enough of the insecurity cases in the border town.
